Aramark deal fiscal leg-up for Barça

The LaLiga club FC Barcelona recently confirmed an agreement with the American food service company Aramark for the sale of 10 percent of Barça Vision which will cover the missing payment of €40 million from a previous deal with the German company Libero.

‘sportskeeda’ stated that FC Barcelona is set to receive a mega financial boost after extending their strategic partnership with Aramark. The American company has become the official catering partner of the Spotify Camp Nou.

Futbol Club Barcelona, commonly known as Barcelona and familiarly as Barça, is a professional football club based in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, that competes in LaLiga, the top flight of Spanish football.

The 55,926-capacity Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium, formerly known as the Estadi de Montjuïc and Estadi Olímpic de Montjuïc and also known in English as the Barcelona Olympic Stadium, is a stadium in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. Originally built in 1927 for the 1929 International Exposition in the City (and Barcelona’s failed bid for the 1936 Summer Olympics, which were awarded to Berlin [Germany]), it was renovated in 1989 to be the main stadium for the 1992 Summer Olympics and 1992 Summer Paralympics. It is used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of FC Barcelona since the 2023-2024 seasons due to the renovation work underway of their regular ground the Spotify Camp Nou.

Camp Nou, currently known as Spotify Camp Nou for sponsorship reasons, is a stadium in Barcelona and the home of the LaLiga club FC Barcelona since its opening in 1957. It is currently undergoing renovation and with a planned increased seating capacity of 105,000, it will be the stadium with the largest capacity in Spain and Europe and the second largest football stadium in the world.

‘sportskeeda’ further stated that the above move will help Barça complete their €40 million due payment in the previous deal with the German company Libero. It is also a mega boost to cover the financial levers activated by the club President Joan Laporta. ‘La Blaugrana’ also hope they can return to the 1:1 financial policy through the new deal.

Aramark is a multinational organization with a reach in 19 countries across the globe and boasting 248,000 employees. The company’s headquarters are based in Philadelphia, US.

The company has been present in Spain since 1992. It has been in charge of several sporting and other entertainment events across Spain for several years. A leader in the hospitality industry, Aramark will be the catering in charge of the future Spotify Camp Nou. It would also look to provide an enhanced experience to the fans year-round in the Espai Barça project. The Espai Barça project includes all of the club’s current facilities.

The Barcelona has reached the agreement through a 10 percent sale of the club’s Barça vision project. The Barça vision initiative brings together web3, non-fungible token (NFT) and Metaverse projects.

As mentioned above, the recent Aramark deal will help Barcelona recover a mega sum from their previous deal with Libero. They still have $65.5 million to recover from the Libero deal for which the club have taken legal action against the German company.

Financial instability saw Barcelona lose their crown jewel Lionel Messi back in 2021. Since then, the club haven’t been able to be competitive in the transfer market which would change soon.
