AS+P ‘Big Yay’ for Frankfurt multiuse venue

Arena project in Frankfurt one step closer to reality

AS+P Albert Speer und Partner GmbH and HHVision

The architecture firm Albert Speer+Partner (AS+P) recently announced that the construction of a 15,000-capacity multifunctional arena in the “heart of Europe” (Frankfurt, Germany) is feasible.

‘AS+P’ stated that recently the City of Frankfurt/Main (Germany) presented the results of several in-depth studies carried out that consider a multifunctional arena on parking lot P9 next to Frankfurt’s Deutsche Bank Park to be “feasible and one that makes sense”.

In Autumn, the City Council and the Municipal authorities will take a decision on the above planned multiuse arena.

Frankfurt am Main (Germany)-based the Albert Speer+Partner (AS+P)’s team of 200 architects and urban planners, landscape architects and transport engineers develops and plans projects of all sizes from regional planning through to small architectural details – with support from the geographers, interior designers and project managers. The AS+P’s core expertise is in architecture, urban planning, transport, and landscape planning. They are also specialized in the fields of cultural and education buildings, sports venues, airport and trade fair planning, and concepts for mega events.

The 58,000-capacity Waldstadion, currently known as the Deutsche Bank Park for sponsorship purposes, is a retractable roof sports stadium in Frankfurt, Hesse, Germany. The home stadium of the Bundesliga team Eintracht Frankfurt, it opened its doors in the year 1925.

‘AS+P’ further stated that the in-depth studies were carried out as regards the planning approach, mobility as well as cost-effectiveness of the new planned arena. The AS+P has pointed out that a new multifunctional arena at the P9 site will be in harmony with the Deutsche Bank Park which boasts huge parking spaces.

The planned multifunctional arena will serve as the home ground of the professional basketball club Skyliners Frankfurt and the professional ice hockey team Löwen Frankfurt and will also hold major music acts and conferences.

The Skyliners Frankfurt, currently known as the Fraport Skyliners for sponsorship reasons, is a professional basketball club based in Frankfurt, Germany. The club is playing in the Basketball Bundesliga (the highest level league of professional club basketball in Germany) since the year 1999. The 5,002-capacity Fraport Arena serves as their home ground.

The Löwen Frankfurt is a professional ice hockey team based in Frankfurt, Hesse, Germany. They currently play in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (the highest division in German ice hockey). The 6,946-capacity Eissporthalle Frankfurt serves as their home arena.

The AS+P is open to the idea of a new sports and events venue in Frankfurt which would open up floodgates of opportunities to host sports shows and major musical events in the City and the Rhine-Main region and would make the City of Frankfurt even more vibrant.
