The BMD Group has been awarded the $87 million Economic Development Queensland contract for the first phase of the Northshore Brisbane – Street Renewal Program which will pave the way for the delivery of the Brisbane Athlete Village for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games (Australia).

‘BMD’ stated that BMD’s works will transform the Northshore precinct with new and significantly upgraded roads as well as landscape and services infrastructure including the creation of a sub-tropical boulevard along Macarthur Avenue which will feature separated cycleways, footpaths and landscaping.

PORT OF BRISBANE (Australia)-based the BMD Group is a national group of companies engaged in engineering design, construction and land development for clients and partners in the urban development, transport infrastructure and resources and energy sectors.

Brisbane (Australia)-based the Economic Development Queensland (EDQ) is the Queensland Government’s land use planning and property development agency. They embrace partnerships across Government, industry and the community to deliver new residential communities, urban precincts and industrial ecosystems.

The Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be Games for all of Queensland. The Games are about accelerating delivery of long-term plans needed for sustainable growth. Brisbane 2032 will be inclusive of all Queenslanders with benefits to be shared across the State.

The 2032 Summer Olympics, officially the Games of the XXXV Olympiad and also known as Brisbane 2032, is an upcoming international multisport event scheduled to take place from July 23rd-August 8th, 2032 in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

‘BMD’ further stated that the BMD head honcho Scott Power said as a proud Australian contractor with 45 years’ experience the BMD is looking forward to being part of the visionary project that will redefine urban connectivity and community vibrancy.

Put in Power, “Having delivered necessary infrastructure upgrades within Northshore Brisbane since 2016, BMD’s experience, capability and collaborative approach to contracting will pave the way for the Brisbane Athlete Village and beyond. BMD’s focus is on powering performance and leaving enduring legacies in the communities we operate in. Projects like this are an opportunity to create jobs and work with the local businesses to ensure great local benefits as well as a diverse, inclusive and connected workforce.”

The Premier of Queensland, Steven Miles, said the early works will transform Northshore Brisbane now, well ahead of 2032, and deliver a better, more connected Brisbane – “Northshore will become home to Team Australia and incredible athletes and para-athletes from right around the world when Brisbane hosts the Olympic and Paralympic Games. And after the Games, this area will be repurposed into much need housing, including social and affordable homes. This is the kind of legacy my Government is seeking to deliver for Brisbane and Queensland.”

The Minister for Education of Queensland Grace Grace said the Northshore Brisbane Street Renewal Program continues the transformative journey for Northshore with an accelerated delivery that will open up parts of this riverfront precinct much earlier than originally planned – “Not only will these works support the delivery of the Brisbane Athlete Village ensuring seamless access and enhanced facilities for the athletes, the visitors and the residents alike cementing Northshore Brisbane as a vibrant hub of activity and connectivity creating a lasting legacy of urban revitalization and economic growth for the City.”

Northshore is Queensland’s largest waterfront urban renewal project and Brisbane’s largest riverfront precinct occupying 304 hectares of land along the river’s inner-City Hamilton reach.

When fully complete, the Street Renewal Program will be an exemplar of sustainability, resilience and innovation.

At full maturity of the trees within the precinct, it is estimated that 75-80 percent of the road verges will be covered in shade creating a sun-safe, cool environment for the residents and the visitors including the athletes and the para-athletes at the Games.

Smart and multifunction light poles will be installed throughout the precinct supporting enhanced connectivity and security features.

Following the Games, the Brisbane Athlete Village accommodation will be repurposed into a range of diverse housing including social, affordable, hotel, retirement, and market with community, recreation and leisure facilities.

The Brisbane Athletes Village will house more than 10,000 athletes and team officials for the Olympic Games and more than 5,000 for the Paralympic Games and have training facilities.
