Power Breakfast

‘Cricket Namibia’ stated that the above announcement (FNB as the stadium naming rights partner) was made during a corporate breakfast hosted by Cricket Namibia on July 26th at the Rooster & Company Restaurant in Windhoek (Namibia) with the attendance of esteemed business partners.

The Namibia Cricket Board, known commercially as Cricket Namibia, is the official governing body of the sport of cricket in Namibia (country in Southern Africa). Its current headquarters is in Windhoek, which is the capital and the largest City of Namibia. Cricket Namibia is Namibia’s representative at the International Cricket Council (ICC) and has been an Associate Member of the ICC since 1992. It is also a Member of the African Cricket Association.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is the global governing body of cricket. It was founded as the Imperial Cricket Conference in 1909 by representatives from Australia, England and South Africa. It was renamed as the International Cricket Conference in 1965 and adopted its current name in 1987. The ICC has its headquarters in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Benoni (South Africa)-based the Africa Cricket Association (ACA) is an international body which coordinates the development of cricket in Africa. The ACA was founded in 1997 and has 23 member-countries. The role of the ACA includes promoting the development of cricket in Africa and organizing few regional tournaments.

‘Cricket Namibia’ further stated that these breakfasts are a quarterly tradition bringing together Cricket Namibia’s sponsors and partners every three months. These engagements offer a valuable platform for networking and collaboration within the cricket community.

However, the above particular breakfast stood out as Cricket Namibia’s long-term partner, FNB, reaffirmed their commitment to the game of cricket in Namibia. The FNB, in collaboration with Cricket Namibia, announced their new role as the stadium naming sponsor and the Associate Partner to the Richelieu Eagles (Namibian cricket team).

The construction of the new cricket stadium is an exciting development not only for Cricket Namibia but for the entire nation. The 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup will be co-hosted by Namibia with Cricket South Africa and Zimbabwe Cricket (the governing body for the sport of cricket in Zimbabwe) marking the first time Namibia will host the World Cup games.

The 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup will be the 14th edition of the Cricket World Cup, a quadrennial One Day International cricket tournament contested by the men’s national teams and organized by the International Cricket Council (ICC). It is scheduled to be played in South Africa, Zimbabwe (country in Africa) and Namibia in October and November 2027.

Maintained Johan Muller, Cricket Namibia head honcho, “We are thankful and privileged to get FNB’s full support. They have been a consistent partner through our development program and it is amazing to see their massive involvement now with the stadium and men’s cricket. We are proud to be associated with a brand like the FNB. Thank you for supporting us in this journey as we create milestones together.”

The partnership between Cricket Namibia and FNB is secured through a three-year contract extending up until just before the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in 2027. This collaboration signifies a major milestone in Cricket Namibia’s journey and highlights the continued support from FNB towards the growth and development of cricket in Namibia.

With the construction of the new stadium underway the future of cricket in Namibia looks brighter than ever. The support from FNB ensures that Cricket Namibia is well-prepared to host international events and provide a world-class facility for the players as well as the fans.
