Sencia is the company that has been awarded the concession contract to develop and operate the new ‘El Campín Cultural and Sports Complex’ in Bogotá, Colombia, essentially making them the primary entity responsible for the redevelopment project of the El Campín Stadium.

The Baseball Hall of Fame in Monterrey, Mexico, is dedicated to recognizing people who have played a pivotal role in promoting baseball in Mexico. It opened in the year 1939 and had its first five inductees in that year itself.

‘Sencia’ stated that the core of the above project is the El Campín Stadium in Bogotá, Colombia, and the redevelopment work which is underway will be completed in two phases and is projected to be completed in 48 months time. The entire development will be carried out in the public-private partnership (PPP) mode. The Asociación Público Privada Complejo Cultural y Deportivo El Campín (APP CDEC) is the developer of the project.

The Estadio Nemesio Camacho El Campín, commonly known as El Campín, is the main stadium of Bogotá, Colombia. It was inaugurated on August 10th, 1938 and can hold 39,512 spectators. It is the home ground of the Categoría Primera A (top flight of football in Colombia) teams Millonarios F.C. and Santa Fe.

Connectivity Angle

The above project site is well-connected and is less than 30 minutes from the El Dorado International Airport. Bogotá is the Americas City with the most extensive network of bike paths and all the transportation alternatives are linked to high quality pedestrian infrastructure that connects with the project site.

Stadium Refurbishment

‘Sencia’ further stated that the stadium transformation part will include the construction of four new tribunes, construction of a food court, installing a grass pitch, and installation of a new roof. A parking area to accommodate 3,000 vehicles and bikes will be constructed and it will be high on the technology quotient and a huge space of the venue will be devoted to sports, entertainment and retail which will also include a food court for the gastronomes. An auditorium will also come up as well as hospitality areas and the venue precincts will also include offices.

A 200-room hotel is also being planned as well as a sports clinic. Local cuisines will also be served to showcase the local culinary culture. Multiple plazas and pedestrian corridors are also being planned as part of the above project.

The plan is to make the El Campín Stadium a destination unto itself and it is projected that the above development will generate jobs.

The arena will be redesigned in such a manner so as to facilitate the holding of international sporting events and major music and entertainment acts. The revamped stadium will spread over 111,500 m2 and will boast a capacity of 46,000. It will also enjoy 230 suites, museums, eateries, casino, football club stores, dressing rooms, media zone, and an esports arena.

Revenue Angle

Tickets, parking, naming rights, and visitors to the facility are expected to help drive revenue and keep the wheels of the El Campín Stadium well-oiled.

Sum-up

Together with the refurbishment of Bogotá’s El Campín Stadium, the project will transform the space into a high-level cultural and sports complex including an auditorium, a commercial area and a renovated public space.

The starting point for the project is creating a high-quality urban ecosystem that serves as a permanent catalyst for an area of the City now physically and visually fragmented and isolated. For that purpose, the pedestrian routes, outdoor activities and dynamic uses, as well as a big square will articulate and connect the three milestones of this major mixed-use project: Stadium, auditorium and arena. The whole appears integrated in Bogota’s landscape and surroundings becoming an important revitalizer for the City and for Colombia itself.
