UCF Athletics starts premium sales for new Roth Tower project Image: UCF Knights

The University of Central Florida (UCF) (US) Board of Trustees moved to approve the construction and financing vehicle of the expanded and renovated football Roth Tower during a workshop held recently.

‘UCF’ quoted Terry Mohajir, UCF Vice-President and Director of Athletics, as stating, “This is another exciting day in the trajectory of UCF Athletics. Not only will the new Tower provide new resources for us, but this will allow us to expand the premium offerings and the entry level seating options to maintain one of the most affordable tickets among the Power Four Conferences (Atlantic Coast Conference [ACC], Big Ten, Big 12, and Southeastern Conference [SEC]) in college football. I’d like to thank the Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings, the Orange County Commissioners and the Tourism Development Council for seeing the value that UCF Athletics brings to Orlando (Florida, US) in tourism and especially the UCF Board of Trustees and Dr. Cartwright for their confidence to move forward with such an exciting project.”

The University of Central Florida (UCF) is a public research university with its main campus in the unincorporated Orange County, Florida (US). It is part of the State University System of Florida.

The UCF Athletics, or the University of Central Florida Athletics Association, is a Direct Support Organization (DSO – not-for-profit, federally tax-exempt organizations in Florida) that manages the university’s intercollegiate athletic programs. The UCF Knights represent the university in several sports.

‘UCF’ stated that among the presentations made during the session, Mohajir gave an update on the progress of the Kenneth G. Dixon Athletics Village (the portion of the campus dedicated to athletic competition as well as the health and well-being, academic services and professional development of Knights’ student-athletes) and the results of the demand study for the FBC Mortgage Stadium Roth Tower expansion.

Mohajir also unveiled updated renderings of the Stadium Tower Design to the Board in a presentation along with Jon Varnell, UCF’s Vice-President for Administrative Operations.

Following the discussion, the Executive Chief of Staff Mike Kilbride, UCF, and the Vice-President and General Counsel Youndy Cook, UCF, presented the Tourism Tax Development Funding Agreement (a six percent tax on hotel stays and short-term rentals in Orange County, Florida, that funds tourism-related expenditures) which will now move to the Orange County Government for final approval.

Albert Francis, Assistant Vice-President for Debt Management and University Treasurer, provided the debt package for discussion in conjunction with the Senior Vice President for Administration and Finance Gerald Hector.

The Board of Trustees approved all items moving the tower project forward pending final approvals from the Orange County Government and the Florida Board of Governors.

The Tower is scheduled to be completed by the 2026 football season.
