FedEx supports stadium safety

FedEx

The Federal Express Corporation, one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, has announced that it will donate 40 million KRW to the K League Assist, the social contribution arm of K League, to improve the safety of football stadiums in South Korea.

‘FedEx’ stated that the FedEx and K League Assist will launch a safety campaign at the Incheon Football Stadium in Incheon, South Korea, which aims at preventing accidents and injuries caused by large crowds in the stadiums. This includes installation of 12 new emergency evacuation signs across the walls and corridors of the Incheon Football Stadium.

The FedEx Corporation, originally the Federal Express Corporation, is an American multinational conglomerate holding company focused on transportation, e-commerce and business services and is based in Memphis, Tennessee, US.

Seoul (South Korea)-based the K League is South Korea’s professional football league. It includes the first division K League 1 and the second division K League 2.

The Incheon Football Stadium, also known as the Sungui Arena Park, is a football-specific stadium in Incheon, South Korea. The stadium is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of the Incheon United of the K League. The stadium can pack in 20,891 spectators.

‘FedEx’ further stated that the new signs will enable the spectators to quickly find evacuation routes in the event of emergencies. Additionally, etiquette guide posters and standees will be placed throughout the stadium to promote a safe and enjoyable match viewing experience.

The FedEx recently renewed its sponsorship with K League for four of its clubs, including the K League 1 teams FC Seoul, the Ulsan HD FC, the Incheon United FC, and the Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC, for the 2024 season. Through this sponsorship, the FedEx will organize various events for its customers and football fans across the country to make the K League matches more engaging and exciting.

During the designated home games of the four clubs the matchgoers are welcome to join the ‘FedEx Zone’ which is action-packed with activities including shooting challenges and photo or autograph signing sessions with the players.

Commented Wonbin Park, Managing Director, FedEx Korea, “We are honored to join forces with the K League Assist in promoting safety to football enthusiasts across the country. This initiative aligns with our ‘Safety Above All’ principle which is paramount in every aspect of our operations. We look forward to expanding this campaign to more stadiums so that the spectators may enjoy the matches in a safe environment.”

Added Young-jin Kwak, Director, K League Assist, “We extend our sincere thanks to the FedEx for their generous donation. With the support of FedEx, we are committed to creating a safer environment for the fans to enjoy K League matches.”

The above collaboration reaffirms FedEx commitment to make a positive impact to the local communities by engaging in world-class sports events such as the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Champions League (an annual club association football competition contested by the top-division European clubs), the Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) and the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Nyon (Switzerland)-based the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) is one of six continental bodies of governance in association football. It governs football, futsal and beach football in Europe and the transcontinental countries of Turkey, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Kazakhstan, as well as the West Asian countries of Cyprus, Armenia and Israel. The UEFA consists of 55 national association members. Since 2022, due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the FIFA and UEFA suspended all Russian national teams and clubs from any FIFA and UEFA competitions.

Last year, FedEx became a sponsor of six K League clubs including the Daejeon Korail FC that competes in the K3 League, the third tier of the South Korean football league system, the FC Seoul, the Suwon FC that competes in the K League 1, the Ulsan Citizen FC which plays in the K3 League, the Incheon United FC, and the Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC for the 2023 season.
