Florida sports park sterling experience

Construction started at Sprowls Horizon Sports Park

OSPORTS

Officials recently broke ground on the highly anticipated Sprowls Horizon Sports Park, a 39-acre sports complex in Pinellas County, Florida (US).

The Sprowls Horizon Sports Park is slated to open in Summer 2025. It’s currently undergoing construction in Pinellas County.

‘FLORIDA YIMBY’ stated that the new facility, named in honor of the former Florida Speaker of the House Chris Sprowls, replaces an aging youth sports park with a state-of-the-art center with a host of amenities. The complex will feature up to six baseball and softball fields, a full-sized artificial turf soccer field and a replacement of the outdoor hockey rink provided by the Tampa Bay Lightning Community Hockey Foundation.

The Tampa Bay Lightning Community and Hockey Development team operates under the Lightning Foundation, a 501(c) 3 organization. The Community and Hockey Development team utilizes all donations for the sole purposes of growing the game of hockey across the Tampa Bay Area in Florida, US.

Originally planned as a renovation of the existing park, a generous $13.5 million grant from the State, approved by the Governor of Florida Ron DeSantis in 2022, enabled the City to pursue more extensive upgrades. The project will cost an estimated $25 million to $30 million to complete.

‘FLORIDA YIMBY’ further stated that the venture is expected to attract athletes from across United States boosting the local sports scene and the economy.
