Harriers consolidate home ground position

Birchfield Harriers to remain at Alexander Stadium

The Birmingham City Council and the Birchfield Harriers Athletic Club have announced the signing of the license agreement for the latter’s home ground – the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, UK.

The signing of the above new agreement secures the club’s position as a fundamental part of the stadium and partnership with the City. Both organizations are delighted that this secures Birchfield’s occupation and exclusivity of the stadium for the future generations.

‘Birmingham City Council’ stated that following the redevelopment of the Alexander Stadium into a state-of-the-art £72million world-class venue the Birmingham City Council is pleased to be moving forward into an exciting future with a new arrangement between the Council and the club updating the original license signed in 1975.

The Birmingham City Council is the local authority for the City of Birmingham in the West Midlands, England (UK). Birmingham has had an elected local authority since 1838 which has been reformed several times. Since 1974, the Council has been a Metropolitan Borough Council. It provides the majority of the local Government services in the City. It is the most populous local Government district in England serving over 1.1 million people.

The Birchfield Harriers is an athletic club founded in 1877. The Alexander Stadium serves as their home ground.

The Alexander Stadium is an athletics stadium in Perry Barr, Birmingham, United Kingdom. It is the largest athletics stadium in the United Kingdom. The stadium has four stands with a total seated capacity of 18,000.

‘Birmingham City Council’ further stated that the most successful athletics club in the country, the Birchfield Harriers were integral to the original relocation and construction of the Alexander Stadium.

Commented Councilor Saima Suleman, Cabinet Member for Digital, Culture, Heritage and Tourism, “The investment that continues to be put into the stadium will provide a lasting Commonwealth Games legacy. The City Council is committed to working in partnership with the club to promote athletics and grow the sport further in a stadium with the very best of facilities and support for the whole community to enjoy.”
