The Heinz-Steyer-Stadion in Dresden, Germany has reopened after major renovation work was completed.

World Transplant Games 2025 said the stadium’s first event, the “Golden Oval,” a premier track and field competition, marked the beginning of a new era for this iconic sports venue.

Nestled in the heart of the Sportpark Ostra, just a few hundred meters from Dresden’s historic old town, the new Heinz-Steyer-Stadion is now a state-of-the-art, multifunctional sports facility.

With a seating capacity of 5,000 covered seats, which can be expanded to accommodate 15,000 spectators with mobile stands, the stadium is set to become a hub for Track and Field, football, and American football.

The stadium will be home to elite Track and Field events, the football teams of Dresdner SC, and the American football team Dresden Monarchs.

Dresdner Sportclub 1898 e.V., known simply as Dresdner SC, is a German multisport club playing in Dresden, Saxony. Founded on 30 April 1898, the club was a founding member of the German Football Association (Deutscher Fussball Bund) in 1900. Since 2012 the club has been playing in the tier seven Landesklasse.

The Dresden Monarchs are an American football team from Dresden, Germany. They have been a member of the first tier German Football League since 2002 and play in its Northern Division.

The newly redeveloped stadium has a multi-functional south stand housing squash courts, a fencing hall and various club facilities, making it a vibrant center for sports and community activities.

A notable feature of the new stadium is the photovoltaic system installed on its roof, contributing to the goal of making the Sportpark Ostra CO2-neutral.

This forward-thinking initiative highlights Dresden’s commitment to sustainability in sports.

Construction of the revamped Heinz-Steyer-Stadion began in October 2021, and the venue now stands as a modern symbol of Dresden’s sporting excellence.

The stadium will host the Track and Field events of the World Transplant Games 2025 on August 22 and 23, 2025.

As the cutting-edge centerpiece of the WTG 2025, the Heinz-Steyer-Stadion will welcome athletes from around the world in a celebration of sportsmanship and resilience.
