It’s official! Following the unanimous vote of the National Football League (NFL) team Owners on October 15th, the Stadium of the Future (the NFL team Jacksonville Jaguars proposed 63,000-seat, open-air stadium) will move forward as planned.

‘jaguars.com’ stated that with the October 15th vote, it is certain that the NFL team Jacksonville Jaguars will thrive in Jacksonville (Florida, US) for decades to come and the stadium patrons can expect a world-class experience for both the NFL and non-NFL events alike.

New York (US)-based the National Football League (NFL) is a professional American football league that consists of 32 teams divided equally between the American Football Conference and the National Football Conference.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are a professional American football team based in Jacksonville, Florida (US). The Jaguars compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member of the American Football Conference South Division. The team plays its home games at the EverBank Stadium.

The 67,838-capacity EverBank Stadium is an American football stadium in Jacksonville, Florida, United States. It is the home facility of the Jacksonville Jaguars of the National Football League (NFL).

The proposed 63,000-seat, open-air stadium includes a translucent covering that’s the equivalent of wearing shades in the sun.

‘jaguars.com’ further stated that the Stadium of the Future is a complement to the tremendous growth happening in Downtown Jacksonville which includes the completion of the riverfront parks through the Community Benefits Agreement (CBA) and the Four Seasons Hotel and Private Residences Jacksonville which will serve as the centerpiece of the Jacksonville Shipyards development. The stadium transformation will commence in early 2025 with a planned grand opening in August 2028.

A community benefits agreement (CBA) in the United States is a contract signed by the community groups and a real estate developer that requires the developer to provide specific amenities and/or mitigations to the local community or the neighborhood.

The Jacksonville Shipyards development is a $2.5 billion mixed-use district in downtown Jacksonville, Florida, that aims to revitalize the area.

The Jaguars and the City of Jacksonville stated that they are grateful to the NFL Owners and the NFL staff, the Jacksonville City Council and the other stakeholders who worked diligently to bring this historic agreement to fruition. As they celebrate 30 years of Jaguars football this season, they now look forward with immense pride and enthusiasm to the next 30 years.

Stated Shad Khan, Owner, Jacksonville Jaguars, “Never doubt Jacksonville. That was my message in the Summer to the Mayor of Jacksonville, Donna Deegan, the Jacksonville City Council and our residents and I am humbled and grateful that my fellow NFL team Owners agree. Today’s (October 15th) league approval of our Stadium of the Future plan means we will realize our vision for a reimagined home of the Jaguars in Downtown Jacksonville scheduled to open in 2028. The venue will be world-class by every definition. It will impressively serve the Jaguars and their fans, attract major sports and entertainment events to our region and serve as an economic catalyst for decades to come. It also means a new and vibrant Downtown Jacksonville that once may have seemed unimaginable will indeed come to life. I am grateful to all who believed and especially so to everyone who did the hard work to make this happen. We have much more work hard ahead, but a lot to be proud of today. Celebrate!”

Added Donna Deegan, Mayor of Jacksonville, “With today’s (October 15th) vote by the NFL, Jacksonville is on the cusp of taking a huge leap forward. Not only will we soon have a world-class stadium for the Jacksonville citizens to enjoy, but we are making historic investments that will transform our community, realize the dream of a vibrant downtown and reinvigorate our riverfront. I’d like to express my thanks to the League, to Shad Khan and to the entire team. Together, we are creating a bright future for our City.”
