Jeddah E-Prix set to enthrall motorsport buffs

Formula E race in Saudi Arabia heading to Jeddah

Formula E

The Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) E-Prix will make its mark on the Season 11 International Automobile Federation (FIA) Formula E World Championship calendar assuming hosting duties from Diriyah (town in Saudi Arabia).

‘MOTORSPORTWEEK’ stated that Diriyah has enjoyed six seasons of hosting the Formula E action but on February 14th-15th, 2025, the all-electric single-seater series will move to the Red Sea Coast to race on the revised Jeddah Corniche Short Circuit.

An E-Prix is a one hour race which is held on a Formula E weekend and the equivalent to a Grand Prix in Formula One. The drivers compete in the E-Prix for championship points at each meeting with the top three receiving trophies for their efforts.

London (UK)-based the Formula E, officially the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, is an open-wheel single-seater motorsport championship for the electric cars. The racing series is the highest class of competition for the electrically powered single-seater racing cars. The inaugural championship race was held in Beijing (China) in September 2014.

London (UK)-based the Formula One, commonly known as Formula 1 or F1, is the highest class of international racing for open-wheel single-seater formula racing cars sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA).

Paris (France)-based the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) is an international organization with two primary functions surrounding use of the automobile. Its mobility division advocates the interests of the motoring organizations, the automotive industry and the motor car users in the fields of road safety and traffic circulation.

The 50,000-capacity Jeddah Corniche Circuit is a 6.174 km (3.836 mi) motor racing street circuit built in the Red Sea Port City of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. The circuit staged the inaugural Saudi Arabian Grand Prix on December 5th, 2021 as the penultimate race on the 2021 Formula One season calendar.

‘MOTORSPORTWEEK’ further stated that no doubt, the move will strike a chord with the Formula 1 fans with the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix run in Jeddah since 2021.

The Saudi Arabian Ministry of Sport has sanctioned the switch from Diriyah to Jeddah and the short circuit is now awaiting the FIA approval ahead of the February Formula E (FE) debut on the Red Sea Coast.

The FIA World Motor Sport Council is slated to rubber stamp the circuit in October 2024.

Paris (France)-based the World Motor Sport Council is a part of the governance structure of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA). It has responsibility for all aspects of the international motor sport.

The Jeddah E-Prix is the latest puzzle piece to fit into the Season 11 calendar jigsaw.

The GEN3 EVO era of FE will commence with the Sao Paulo E-Prix on December 7th, 2024 before heading to Mexico City shortly after the New Year on January 11th.

The Gen3 EVO is the first Formula E car to feature the All-Wheel-Drive functionality and the results are incredible. Thanks to the All-Wheel-Drive system, the acceleration and pace will increase dramatically while also enhancing the strategy which is synonymous with Formula E’s unrivaled unpredictability.

The Jeddah E-Prix will then be followed by a ‘to be confirmed’ (TBC) event on March 8th with the Miami E-Prix set to take place on April 12th.

A trio of double-headers (a sequence of back-to-back Grands Prix on successive weekends) at Monaco (a sovereign City-State and microState on the French Riviera), Tokyo (Japan) and Shanghai (China) will be succeeded by a single E-Prix at Jakarta, Indonesia, before a Berlin (Germany) and London (UK) double-bill of double-headers closes out Season 11.
