Wembley Stadium has appointed Mark Lynch as the venue’s new Stadium Director.

Access All Areas said in his new role Lynch will be responsible for overseeing the overall delivery of events at Wembley, in addition to managing day-to-day operations, sales and revenue for the stadium.

The 90,000-capacity Wembley Stadium is an association football stadium in Wembley, London (UK). It opened in 2007 on the site of the original Wembley Stadium which had stood from 1923 until 2003.

Lynch was previously Director of Venue at the Rugby Football Union, with responsibility for the 82,000 capacity Twickenham Stadium including operations, revenue, events and long-term development of the venue.

His remit also included rugby events and competitions, plus the RFU Hotel and Health & Leisure subsidiary companies.

Prior to that he was operations director at Yas Marina Circuit, the home of the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

He has also worked on two FIFA World Cup™ tournaments and as production director at Wasserman.

Lynch said, “Wembley Stadium is an iconic venue recognised around the world. It has a history of hosting the biggest and best sports, music and entertainment events and I look forward to continuing that work in the next stage of the venue’s development.”

Lynch takes over from previous Stadium Director Liam Boylan, who, after nine successful years at the venue, has embarked on a new venture in the music industry.

Under Boylan’s stewardship, Wembley played a key role in helping to get events back up and running during the COVID crises, with the venue heavily involved in the United Kingdom Government’s Events Research Programme (to examine the risk of transmission of COVID-19 from attendance at events and explore ways to enable people to attend a range of events safely) and staging seven EURO 2020 matches.

Access All Areas further stated that Lynch joins Wembley as it enjoys one of its busiest years in recent history.

It has hosted 32 events already in 2024 including a UEFA Champions League Final for a record eighth time and a record-breaking run of eight nights from Taylor Swift, which attracted audiences in excess of 700,000.

The stadium has also undergone significant change in the last 12 months following the completion of an investment programme which saw major upgrades to security, hospitality and entertainment areas across the venue.
