The Scottish Premiership team Rangers F.C. has confirmed plans for a temporary switch to Hampden Park in Glasgow, Scotland (UK).

‘insider.co.uk’ stated that the Scottish Football Association (SFA) and the league boards have approved the plan for the club to play its opening home games at the Hampden Park while renovation works continue at the Rangers home ground – the Ibrox Stadium in Glasgow.

The Rangers Football Club is a professional football club in Glasgow, Scotland (UK). The team competes in the Scottish Premiership, the top division of Scottish football. The club is often referred to colloquially as the Glasgow Rangers, particularly outside Scotland, though this has never been its official name.

The Ibrox Stadium is a football stadium on the South side of the River Clyde in the Ibrox area of Glasgow, Scotland (UK). The home of the Scottish Premiership team Rangers Football Club, Ibrox is the third largest football stadium in Scotland with an all-seated capacity of 50,987.

The 51,866-capacity Hampden Park is a football stadium in the Mount Florida area of Glasgow, Scotland (UK) which is the national stadium of football in Scotland and home of the Scotland national football team.

Glasgow (UK)-based the Scottish Football Association (SFA) is the governing body of football in Scotland (UK) and has the ultimate responsibility for the control and development of football in Scotland. The members of the SFA include clubs in Scotland, the affiliated national associations as well as the local associations.

‘insider.co.uk’ further stated that a delayed shipment of steel from Asia has held up work on the Copland Road Stand (located at the East end of the club’s home facility – the Ibrox Stadium) and there is no certainty over when Rangers will return home.

The opening two William Hill Premiership (the league competition for the men’s professional football clubs in Scotland) home matches against their peer teams Motherwell F.C. and Ross County F.C. will take place at Hampden along with European games and a Premier Sports Cup second-round tie – if Rangers are drawn at home.

A statement sent out by the Rangers F.C. read, “The club is continuing work at pace on detailed plans for the transition to the National Stadium. The club is also continuing to work tirelessly on the Copland Stand project at Ibrox to complete that as soon as possible. The Rangers again puts on record its thanks to the Scottish Football Association and the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL – the national men’s association football league in Scotland) for their considerable work in reaching this solution. As soon as the club can provide a definitive update on matches returning to our home, it will do so. Above all, the club thanks its supporters for their ongoing patience and understanding as we deal with this challenge.”

A joint statement from the football authorities read, “The Scottish FA and the SPFL have approved the Rangers F.C.’s request to host the club’s home matches at the Hampden Park due to ongoing works at the Ibrox Stadium. As part of the agreement, the Rangers have committed to fund an accelerated pitch growth program to ensure the Hampden Park surface is ready for the club’s first home game.”

With both stadiums boasting a similar capacity of about 50,000, the Rangers have promised the season ticket holders will each get access to the matches as normal.

The Rangers’ third home league match of the season is against the Hibernian F.C. on September 28th.

The general consensus is that the Rangers are likely to remain at Hampden after September 5th.
