Construction progress Spotify Camp Nou Image: FC Barcelona

The LaLiga team FC Barcelona had started the total transformation work of its home ground – the Spotify Camp Nou in Barcelona, Spain – a year back. With one year completed, construction work is progressing at a rapid pace on revamping the entire structure and chances are bright that the Culé club would be back to their Spotify Camp Nou home by December 2024.

‘FCBN’ stated that the Barça are waiting with bated breath to return to their new-look home Spotify Camp Nou – in all its chic form. The entire exercise to redevelop the Spotify Camp Nou began on June 1st, 2023.

The Futbol Club Barcelona, commonly known as Barcelona and familiarly as Barça, is a professional football club based in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, that competes in LaLiga, the top flight of Spanish football.

The 55,926-capacity Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys is a stadium in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. Originally built in 1927 for the 1929 International Exposition in the City, it was renovated in 1989 to be the main stadium for the 1992 Summer Olympics and 1992 Summer Paralympics. It is the home stadium of FC Barcelona for the 2023-2024 seasons due to the renovation of their regular ground, the Spotify Camp Nou.

The Spotify Camp Nou is a stadium in Barcelona and the home of the LaLiga club FC Barcelona since its opening in 1957. It is currently undergoing renovation and with a planned increased seating capacity of 105,000, it will be the stadium with the largest capacity in Spain and Europe and the second largest football stadium in the world.

The reconfiguration work of the facility is being spearheaded by the Turkish construction company Limak and work is progressing in full gusto with the clear goal that Barça can return to their home ground in December this year.

Ankara (Turkey)-based the Limak Construction is a Turkish construction company that specializes in infrastructure and superstructure projects. Founded in 1976, Limak Construction is Turkey’s second largest international contractor and operates in over 14 countries.

Pillar Work

‘FCBN’ further stated that work on the placing of pillars is progressing at good pace and Limak will place horizontal beams which will form the external ring of the stadium. The Goal South area of the facility is showing good progress.

Limak will continue to place more pillars and beams to encircle the entire perimeter of the Spotify Camp Nou so as to give a firm footing to the entire structure.

There has been significant progress in the interior design work of the stadium and the septum work has also made considerable progress. The parking zone work is also making rapid strides. The plan is that the FC Barcelona returns to the venue by December 2024 though the reconfiguration work will continue to progress but at least 65,000 spectators should be able to watch the Barça fixtures with the capacity initially to be limited while further revamp work continues and is scheduled for completion in the year 2026.
