Superdome ‘super’charged fan experience

Caesars Superdome renovation

New Orleans Saints

As the National Football League (NFL) team Tennessee Titans downed their peer team the New Orleans Saints 30-27 in the final NFL preseason game held at the latter’s home ground – the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana (US) – on August 25th – the Saints unveiled the final updates of the iconic Superdome, a landmark in New Orleans for nearly 50 years, which has undergone a $560 million renovation.

‘fox8live.com’ stated that while the stadium’s exterior remains largely unchanged the interior now features significantly more natural light illuminating the brand-new turf field. The enhancements aim to improve the fan experience, especially as the venue prepares to host Super Bowl LIX.

The New Orleans Saints are a professional American football team based in New Orleans (US). The Saints compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member of the league’s National Football Conference South Division.

The 83,000-capacity Caesars Superdome, commonly known as the Superdome, is a domed multipurpose stadium located in the Central Business District (CBD) of New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. It is the home stadium of the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League (NFL).

New York (US)-based the National Football League (NFL) is a professional American football league that consists of 32 teams divided equally between the American Football Conference and the National Football Conference.

The Super Bowl LIX is the upcoming American football championship game of the National Football League (NFL) for the 2024 season. The game is scheduled to be played on February 9th, 2025 at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, US.

‘fox8live.com’ further stated that the revamped Superdome now boasts wider concourses and new marketplace-style vending areas on almost every level. Among the highlights are two 40-yard-long bars on the plaza level offering the fans a view of the field while they socialize.

Explained Mike Hoss, with ASM Global Communications, the dome’s management company, “It’s fan experience, from getting into the building, getting into your seat, getting your concessions, it is all driven by making it better for the fans.”

Los Angeles (US)-based ASM Global is the world’s leading venue management company and producer of live event experiences. With over 400+ premier venues spanning worldwide it operates and invests in the world’s most important stadiums, arenas, convention centers and theaters, including entertainment districts and mixed-use developments.

A major feature of the renovation is the completion of all the four atrium escalators which will transport fans to the highest levels of the dome with convenient stops along the way. The escalators are enhanced by light-emitting diode (LED) lighting that can change to any color including light source unit (LSU) purple.

The project was fully funded by a partnership between the State, the Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District (LSED) and the Saints with the final cost totaling $560 million. The price increased by $100 million due to post-COVID inflation but the additional costs were covered by the three-way partnership.

The Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District (LSED) are a State agency/political subdivision comprising seven members appointed by the Governor of Louisiana. The Board’s primary purpose is to plan, finance, construct, develop, maintain, and operate facilities located within the district for events of public interest.

The renovation, overseen by Trahan Architects and Broadmoor Construction, was completed over four years with work taking place between football seasons to minimize disruption.

The Trahan Architects is a global architecture firm with offices in New Orleans and New York City and founded on the belief that the mindful design of everyday spaces can elevate the human experience.

Metairie (US)-based Broadmoor is a General Contractor servicing the Gulf Coast and the Greater New Orleans region. They continue to challenge the industry standards throughout their 50 years of service emphasizing risk mitigation and strategic planning with an unwavering commitment to building a project before the shovel hits the ground.

Superdome Transformation

‘NEW ORLEANS SAINTS’ stated that the purpose of the Caesars Superdome transformation project is to preserve the character of the building’s iconic exterior while elevating its overall functionality and the gameday experience for all the guests. These modernizations bring the facility in line with the stadiums being built and renovated across the world thus keeping the storied home of the Saints and the City of New Orleans as ideal hosts for the upcoming and future Super Bowls as well as numerous national and international events for decades to come. Equally as important, the Caesars Superdome will continue to serve as a source of great civic pride while providing a significant economic impact for the City of New Orleans and the State of Louisiana.

The premium spaces are set to transform the iconic stadium into a cutting-edge venue introducing enhanced amenities and exclusive spaces tailored to redefine the gameday experience for the football fans as well as the visitors to other events hosted in the Caesars Superdome.

Informed Dennis Lauscha, Saints President, “A major impetus for the five-year transformation of the Caesars Superdome was to reimagine our guest experience for all of our customers and make it as fan-friendly as possible.
